Joe Friday visits Strongfort Stearn, the current Mr. Monster in Stearn Mansion, where Strongfort has created a museum dedicated to his father Jim Stearn, the World War II Mr. Monster. Strongfort expresses his resentment towards his father and tells Joe his mother died in childbirth. Joe tells Strongfort how Jim learned about his former girlfriend's Gloria relationship with Joe Friday and how Jim became a vagabond, ending up in a hospital after nearly being killed by a monster. It's in the hospital where Jim met nurse Lillith Weiss.
